Send enquiryThe Shishi Odoshi (鹿威し), meaning “Deer Scarer” in Japanese, is a traditional bamboo water feature once used to protect crops from animals. This modern design brings the same rhythmic charm and meditative qualities to your garden or patio.
Water flows into the pivoting bamboo arm until it tips forward, releasing the water with a gentle splash and creating the signature “clack” as it strikes the base. This calming motion repeats in a soothing cycle, accompanied by the tranquil sound of running water.
Perfect for Japanese-inspired gardens, peaceful corners, or decorative water displays, the Shishi Odoshi adds a touch of timeless craftsmanship and serenity to any outdoor space.

The water feature is connected to a source of water and a pump.
The water goes up through a tube to reach the smaller spout, which has a continuous flow to the larger spout beneath. When the bamboo is filled will water, it empties thanks to gravity, and provides a satisfying sound as the water resets to repeat.
Traditionally, the Shishi Odoshi is paired with a stone to create a gentle sound of the bamboo striking stone.
