Project key features

19/20mm Plain Pressed Bamboo Boards
Used extensively throughout the kitchen, the 19/20mm Plain Pressed bamboo formed a core structural and visual element of the design, providing consistency across cabinetry and framework.
5mm and 7mm Bamboo Boards
Thinner bamboo boards were incorporated across various elements of the kitchen to support detailed joinery, internal framework construction and layered material application.
1.35mm/1.5mm 3 ply Bamboo Veneer for curved detailing
A 1.35mm/1.5mm 3 ply bamboo veneer was used on the large, rounded corners of the kitchen island. The veneer was carefully joined to accommodate the approximately 600mm curved corners, creating a seamless, sculptural finish that highlights bamboo’s flexibility and aesthetic warmth.
40mm 9 ply Bamboo Worktop
The kitchen features a 40mm 9 ply bamboo worktop, cut to allow for the framed sections on the rounded doors. This material was also used to form framework elements throughout the rest of the kitchen.

The Challenge

The challenge was to design and manufacture a kitchen that balanced strong structural performance with soft, flowing forms. Large, curved elements, particularly on the kitchen island, required materials that could be precisely worked while maintaining durability, consistency and a high-end finish. The client also wanted a material palette that felt distinctive, sustainable and tactile, without compromising on practicality for everyday use.

The Solution

By supplying a broad range of bamboo products, from veneer through to thick multi-ply worktop material, UK Bamboo enabled a fully integrated approach to material use across the entire kitchen. The combination of plain pressed boards, thin ply sheets and 3 ply veneer allowed the maker to move seamlessly between structural elements and fine detailing, while the 40mm bamboo worktop delivered both visual impact and functional performance.
